Edwards Audio MC2 & PSU2 Combo

The MC2 is essentially an improved version of the MC1 with higher gain in both MM and MC modes. This allows for operation with passive pre-amplifiers or active pre-amplifiers with unity gain. It has improved internally regulated supplies for each separate section and an improved transconductance front end stage to improve bass slam, stereo imaging and transparency whilst reducing noise. There is an optional 7Hz warp filter which is internally selectable via jumpers. As with the MC1 it will support low output moving coil, high output moving coil and moving magnet type cartridges. It also has improved gold plated input and output sockets mounted on a 1.2mm anodized rear panel. We believe that there is nothing to touch this incredible phono stage on the market, for build, value or most importantly, sound quality.

It is unique at the price, with fully RoHs compliant gold plated custom made double sided PCB's , black anodized extruded aluminum case and high quality internal parts like it use of 1% thin film resistors from Wishy and signal capacitors from Wima and Vishay. The signal to noise is very low at -72dB giving below vinyl noise performance. Our psuedo balanced discrete input technology gives you the option to optimize grounding to reduce the possibility of Hum/noise. The MC circuit topology is based on a fully discrete input transconductance gain stage followed by our unique op-amp based active (for the Bass) and passive (for the treble) RIAA filter which is then followed by a totally buffered output section with a very low output impedance of around 10 Ohms. This helps to reduce cable effects and improve output current and drive. It will easily drive a 600 Ohm load.

Attention to detail also extends to the dedicated custom made outboard power supply which is supplied as part of the package, with its use of a split rail design benefits from using + and - DC power outputs for maximum rejection of RF noise, maximum dynamic range and improved overload margin. It also uses a gold plated custom made PCB with high quality rectifiers and snubber caps. This is no normal off the shelf PSU as used by the competition.....

Not just content with state of the art performance it also has a new pretty face with blue LED and white logo. Black is standard, but we are also offering to special order Powder Blue, Lime green and Pink. With these contemporary designs they should fit into even the most fussy or minimalist of interior designs.

The PSU 2 Outboard DC Power Supply is designed to be used as a simple upgrade to the performance of our MC2 or HA2 and other future products. It is unique at the price, with its fully RoHs compliant gold plated custom made double sided PCB's, natural anodized extruded aluminum case and high quality internal parts, as used by TALK Electronics. It also benefits from TALK Electronics buying power with its use of 1% thin film SMT Mini melf resistors plus low impedance electrolytic capacitors throughout.

The design features split rail topology with multiple stages of regulation using our advanced design techniques to reduce all forms of noise. Power is supplied via a custom wound low noise 100VA toroidal transformer

To enable it to be used with its partnering components in a wide variety of differing systems with their sometimes strange earthing arrangements it has the additional facility of being able to switch the ground between fully grounded or lifted. This makes it very flexible by optimizing the system to have its lowest possible hum related noise.

When upgrading from the plug top PSU supplied with the MM1 or MC1 it is a simple matter of plug and play using the supplied leads. The improvement in sound quality is both immediate, obvious and dramatic giving much more authority, smoothness and openness to the sound.
